Message from top management

Five operating companies come together as one to put in place a structure to benefit society, customers, and communities

In March 2021, the DCM Group merged its five home improvement retail operating companies, and the new DCM Co., Ltd. was launched. While this is culmination of 20 years of work in which home improvement retailers rooted in their communities around Japan came together to provide customers with products of excellence, it also marks our “reestablishment” with a focus on the coming era. The stores were given a collective name, DCM, in 2022, and we are also in the process of changing the old logos, which have been used on signs and other places and were a familiar sight for many years in each region, to DCM.

Upon this reestablishment, we have created a new management philosophy for the DCM Group. Each of the five operating companies had their own business philosophy that encapsulated the ideas and passions of their founder, and although the words used were different, what they were conveying was ultimately the same. We have now arranged this into a new structure.
Three company creed
Serving society
Creation for our customers
Creation for the customer
Unity for the community
With this corporate philosophy, we will work to become a company that provides a foundation for "Do Create Mystyle: Giving Shape to Your Dreams for Life" to customers, while at the same time, each employee pursues their own Mystyle and aims for self actualization.
Setting out this corporate philosophy has led to a deepened understanding of our raison d’être among everyone at DCM, and brought a further increased sense of unity. A structure is now in place that allows us to flexibly and speedily deal with changes in society, bring comfort to the daily life and living environment of our customers, improve convenience in the community, and achieve growth and job satisfaction for employees.

Promoting sustainability management

Originally, home centers were stores that supported DIY (Do It Yourself), or in other words, ``repairing things yourself and using them with care for a long time.'' In that sense, I think home centers have a deep connection to sustainability. In addition, in recent years, as rural areas have become increasingly depopulated and the birthrate is declining and the population is aging, the role of supporting local lifestyles and providing products and services to support the elderly has also been added. Additionally, as natural disasters occur frequently, they have come to play a role in disaster prevention and provision of supplies in the event of a disaster. In addition, customers are also very interested in products and lifestyle wisdom that will help them cope with the desire to save money in order to overcome rising energy and commodity prices. In this way, home centers are increasingly expected to function as community infrastructure.
Indeed, the very existence of a home center is sustainability, and DCM has cherished this idea since its establishment in 2006 and has focused its efforts on sustainable management .

First, regarding the SDGs, young employees gathered together to conduct research and research, and created an action plan in fiscal 2021. During the study, we repeatedly exchanged opinions with stakeholders and experts and established 8 priority issue groups and 22 priority issues (materiality), which will enable us to promote initiatives for company growth and SDGs measures in an integrated manner. We have also set up a system.

Regarding climate change, which is a global issue, in April 2023 we expressed support for the recommendations of the TCFD (Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures). We aim to achieve Scope 1 and 2 carbon neutrality by fiscal 2050, and are currently considering specific decarbonization efforts.

Aiming to be a value-creating company that realizes “more comfortable living and housing” through DIY

The 22 priority issues include many things that DCM has worked on and is good at, and it once again highlights the importance of approaching daily operations from a sustainability perspective. In addition to this, it also includes issues that must be addressed in the future. Under these circumstances, many products linked to the SDGs have been created under the DCM brand, which is DCM's private product.
For example, in product development, we are promoting the development of resource-saving products by changing raw materials, containers, packaging materials, and promotional materials that contain less plastic, as well as expanding customer awareness activities at stores. Additionally, by leveraging our nationwide store network, we are working with our customers to strengthen resource recovery, effective use, and recycling activities. Furthermore, in order to further promote DIY, we will increase the number of shops where you can experience and support DIY, and we will also launch the "Residence Helper Business", which will visit customers' homes and provide value-added services as a group of DIY experts. We will continue to strengthen this.

Strengthen the development of human resources who will lead the next generation and promote diversity

We are working on human capital management to create a healthy and comfortable work environment for our employees and enable them to achieve self-fulfillment. Specifically, we are working to develop top management and promoting the active participation of women through women's networking events, as well as focusing on health management so that each employee can work in good physical and mental health.

DCM will enhance these initiatives towards sustainability, and as a value creating business that achieves a more comfortable life and living through DIY, we will strive to be a company that continuously creates new value for society, customers, and local communities.
