Reduction in petroleum-based plastics and CO2 emissions by changing the carrier bags used at stores

DCM and Keiyo D2 stores use Bio LimeAir Bags that include 25% limestone and plastic from biomass. We will work to reduce petroleum-based plastics and CO2 emissions in order to reduce the load on the environment.
Along with the introduction of charges for carrier bags in 2020, we have switched to 25% biomass bags with a lower environmental burden and reduced the volume we use by approximately 85%. Yet despite this, we still use the equivalent of approximately 130 tons of plastic per year.
As such, DCM has switched to Bio LimeAir Bags that use limestone and plant-based resin for the group’s carrier bags, and will work to reduce its use of petroleum-based plastic by around 41% and reduce CO2 emissions by up to 27% on an annualized basis.

Examples of initiatives for reduced use of other plastics and CO2 emissions

1. We use LIMEX* for labels to print names and other elements of the DCM brand flower seedlings on in an effort to reduce plastic used.

2. LIMEX*, which is a synthetic material containing more than 50% of inorganic substances such as limestone, is used for the lid of DCM Cultivation Sets, and as such the use of plastic has been drastically reduced.

*LIMEX is a synthetic alternative to plastic and paper and includes at least 50% inorganic material such as calcium carbonate.
